Despite the current New York Times Amazon.com scandal, Jeff Bezos’ company has offered yet another exciting nugget of consumerism news this week. Amazon is now offering free same-day shipping for Prime members in numerous cities, including Washington, D.C. The full list notes 14 cities across the United States including the likes of Seattle, San Francisco, NYC, Baltimore, Boston, Los Angeles, and even Dallas/Ft. Worth. You can see the full list in the map above.
Products available for “Prime FREE Same-Day,” will be labeled as such when shopping on your computer or smartphone/tablet applications. If you order by noon, Amazon says you’ll get your package by 9pm, no matter what day it is (yes, even weekends). Of course, Prime is also offering “Prime FREE One-Day” to receive guaranteed next day shipment. What’s the catch? You have to order at least $35 of eligible items to to receive them the same day. As noted, this offer is exclusive to Amazon Prime members.
That’s not bad for a membership that only costs $100 a year. It’s also a great improvement over the free two-day shipping that was offered prior. The best part? Even friends/relatives of Prime members can receive this perk for the time being. In addition, Amazon claims you can get a package in 1-2 hours for select items in select cities.
American labor tragedies aside, if you want to take advantage of this service as a shared member (mooch), we recommend you do it quickly. Amazon took away access to free Prime Instant Video for “shared Prime members” just this month.
