Today Verizon Wireless is announcing its new DROID lineup including the DROID Turbo 2 with a fancy new feature–Moto ShatterShield. That’s right, the famously quick and long-lasting Moto Droid Turbo now has a screen you can’t bust (hypothetically).
The new technology puts together five layers of shock absorption that are said to not crack or shatter upon impact. Drop tests have yet to be seen, but this makes one wonder whether or not plastic is the largest culprit of this fix to the smartphone’s well-known kryptonite–gravity.
The Turbo 2 also comes with a larger 5.4″ Quad HD display and a 21-megapixel rear camera that should rival Samsung and Apple flagship-shooters. Verizon is also announcing the Droid Maxx 2 which has a 5.5″ display, 48-hour battery, and fast-charging like its Moto brethren.
Both phones will start selling on Thursday, Oct. 29. The Droid Turbo 2 will run $624/$720 retail and the Droid Maxx 2 for $384. For more details and specs, check out the press release below.

Pick your favorite color and customize the back of your phone with materials like leather or ballistic nylon. Moto Maker offers more than 1,000 different combinations to truly make it your Droid. You’ll be able to design and order your Droid Turbo 2 online and also in Verizon stores.
Tired of the colors you chose and looking for something new? Verizon allows you to refresh your Droid Turbo 2 with a full redesign one time within two years of purchase. Simply choose your new design and send back your old phone when the fresh one arrives. Every design refresh also includes an upgrade to the 64 GB model.
Design refresh will be available when you customize your Droid through Moto Maker for a $96 one-time fee or $4 per month for customers purchasing the smartphone on a device payment plan. Leather material is an additional $24.
Droid Maxx 2
This year’s Droid line up also includes one more Droid — The Droid Maxx 2. It’s designed with the essentials in mind: 48 hour battery life, a 21-megapixel camera, TurboPower™ charging which gives you 8 hours of use with a 15 minute charge2, and a 5.5-inch full HD display. So you still get those great features that Droid has to offer at a great price point.

Reliability matters
A reliable 4G LTE network is more important than ever in today’s mobile world. It means when you want to upload that selfie to Instagram with all those filters, you can. Both new Droids will be available online and in stores starting Oct. 29. The Droid Turbo 2 will be $26 per month for 24 months ($624 retail price) or $30 per month for 24 months ($720 retail price) with design refresh. And the Droid Maxx 2 will be $16 per month for 24 months ($384 retail price).
Beginning Oct. 29, get up to $300 when you switch to Verizon and trade in a smartphone — even with a cracked screen — and buy a new Droid Turbo 2. Trade-in promotion available for a limited time and value provided via Verizon gift card. The trade-in device must be able to power on.
